Declaration of the Rengo's 5th Convention

With a slogan of "Power and action toward the 21st century" Rengo adopted its action policies for 1998-99.

Rengo promised its commitments of activating its movement, expanding to represent more workers and playing the social role of trade unions by implementing the action policies based on a principle that fairness is the vitality of the society.
Now Japan is faced with various problems, such as low birth rate, ageing population, global mega competition, and deterioration of the global environment, industrial structural reform and widening wage gap caused by distorted income distribution. Rengo will challenge courageously structural reforms in various areas toward a new decentralized system of agreement based on fairness, equality and participation in order to overcome such problems.
In order to ease workers' anxiety and also to actualize a vital welfare/economic society where we can feel being well off and richness with social justice fully respected, Rengo will make its full effort to better policies and systems, to improve working conditions, to accomplish 10-million-Rengo, to concentrate the force of political parties based on workers' interest and to develop cooperation with the community movement.

The whole world is now at a historical turning point toward the 21st century.

Tasting the value of peace and the importance of the trade union movement, responding to the changing society, satisfying the expectation of the members and workers, Rengo will develop its movement at the maximum of assume its responsibility.
