The 2 Billion-yen Tax Reduction Comes True: Rengo's Comment on the Prime Minister's Decision
(19 December 1997)

Prime Minister Hashimoto announced in the morning of 17 December 1997 that the 2 billion-yen tax reduction had been included in the 1997 supplementary budget as part of business-stimulating measures. He identified the reduction as a bold measure to prevent the spread of the Japanese financial panic to the whole world and described that it was inevitable to withdraw its resource from the exceptional public bond. Right after the press conference, the Assistant Chief Secretary of the Cabinet informed that Prime Minister made this decision taking into account the Rengo's request. In return Rengo published the talk of its General Secretary that the decision should be highly evaluated. Rengo's efforts that had been made for a year finally proved fruitful.
