RENGO released the comment of the General Secretary, Mr. Sasamori, at the occasion of the end of the 142th ordinary session of the Diet on 18 June 1998, remarking that RENGO would continue its actions for issues such as security of employment, reform of labor legislation and tax cuts.

RENGO held 98 Okinawa Peace Rally

RENGO held 98 Okinawa Peace Rally on 22 June 1998. 2,000 participants from RENGO affiliated unions and local RENGOs all over Japan assembled under the burning sun at Cape Zanpa in Yomitan village, Okinawa. This forth Okinawa Peace Rally since RENGO's formation is aiming at learning lessons from the tragic history of Okinawa which experienced the only one ground war in Japan at the last stage of the Second World War.

Symposium on "Here Differs ; DPJ and LDP"

RENGO Policy Forum held a symposium "Thoroughgoing Debate on 'Here Differs ; Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) of Kan and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Hashimoto', DPJ changes Japan" on 23 June 1998. 350 audience listened to the quick exchanges of discussion in earnest. At the opening, Mr. Kan, the President of DPJ, criticized LDP as the party which respects more tax-users than tax-payers, and emphasized that DPJ would use tax in a manner everyone can accept in the stand point of payers. The discussion started with the attendance of Mr. Uchida, Representative of RENGO Policy Forum, Mr. Sasamori, General Secretary of RENGO, Mr. Tsutsumi, President of Saison Corporation and Prof. Shimada and Sone of Keio Univ.

Go to Election Concert Took Place with Celebrities in Tokyo Int'l Forum

For the campaign to promote general public to participate in politics, "Go to Election, Tokyo Concert" was held by volunteer members in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The concert was initiated by celebrities as Governor Asano of Miyagi Prefecture, Mr. Bunta Sugawara, an actor, Ms. Higuchi, a critic and Chancellor Hironaka of Yamaguchi Univ. The concert with full 3,000 audience at the Tokyo International Forum was closed with the adoption of the appeal, "Future depends on action and one vote of individuals".
