4 Organizations Protested against Pakistan in Executing Nuclear Test
(5 June 1998)

Pakistan, rivaling India, conducted its underground nuclear test in Baluchistan Province on 28 May. RENGO, together with other the Japan Congress against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs (Gensuikin), the National Council for Peace and against Nuclear Weapons (Kakkin Kaigi) and RENGO Tokyo, made a protesting demonstration at the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo for Pakistani outrage neglecting deep hope of all persons of the world who earnestly expect the realization of world peace.
The statement of protest is as follows;

We have requested to stop nuclear tests to India and to Pakistan, however, Pakistan steamrollered underground nuclear test. There is no other expression but an outrage for it. The underground nuclear test by Pakistan destroys the worldwide nuclear arms reduction framework which based on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and drives the world into nuclear arms race again. There is no justification at all for nuclear tests. The way of thinking that justifies the "threat" of nuclear arms as to prevent war really expands the tension among nations and damages the present nuclear disarmament stream and the world peace. All the nation should not use nuclear arms development to boost national prestige and should use its resources to better the life of its people. We demand Pakistani government to stop its nuclear test and nuclear arms development program immediately and sign for CTBT and NPT.
