RENGO's Policy on the 18th Upper House Election in July
(12 June 1998)

For the coming Upper House election in July, RENGO and its affiliates strengthened the determination to promote the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) toward the victory.

(1)RENGO welcomes the birth of the DPJ which puts its stance on workers and ordinary citizens. Regarding the DPJ as a pillar of new political forces, RENGO decided to support it by all means. RENGO aims at the drastic expansion of the DPJ in the coming election, in order to realize RENGO's policy and to better workers and ordinary citizens' future life.
(2)The coming election of the Upper House, putting the next election of the House of Representatives into the outlook, can be an crucial leap to change the government party. Toward the politics for ordinary citizens and consumers, RENGO has to stop the majority seats of the Liberal Democratic Party.
(3)Though it is not perfect, RENGO was prepared to support one party by the election for the first time in 38 years since the split of the Socialist Party in 1960. The strong will of RENGO is behind the preparation toward the two major political party system. The election for the Upper House this time is the crucial one that requires the full support of all the RENGO affiliated unions.
