Campaign for the Coming Upper House Election Started,
the Crucial Issues are Unemployment and Labor Standards
RENGO for the Expansion of Democratic Party of Japan
(26 June 1998)
In the midst of employment anxiety by the protracted recession, the 18th Upper House election was officially announced on 25 June, and the campaign for the victory had started. The election's largest issues are unemployment and labor standards.
The Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) which RENGO bolsters had made the first appeal to its supporters on the same day at 9:30 am at Shinjuku, the biggest downtown area of Tokyo. Under the light drizzle, President Washio of RENGO, President Kan of DPJ, Mr. Hatoyama, Acting Secretary General of DPJ, Vice President Hatoyama of DPJ and Mr. Kaieda, Member of Parliament of DPJ had assembled on the top of the big campaign car to cheer Mr. Toshio Ogawa, the candidate of Tokyo Metropolitan constituency.
Mr. Kan, President of DPJ, appealed by saying "if the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) won, the international society would abandon Japan and accelerate selling Japan because they would not see self-recovery ability in our country. DPJ can break through this critical situation and can draw up the future for the people to rely on. We truly ask you to leave political power to DPJ.
"People are discontent with the present politics since they cannot put confidence in their future owing to the today's worst unemployment situation and less children with aged society raised by the recession of economy. RENGO and opposition parties have long requested the execution of tax cuts to recover the sense of security by people. Hashimoto government implemented tax cuts by GAIATSU, the foreign pressure. Removing out the people's future anxiety is the first priority to recover the economy and the DPJ is to be elected to office for it", President Washio of RENGO appealed.
RENGO, with President and General Secretary on the top, makes all possible efforts for all RENGO nominated candidates during the campaign.
