Work For the Next Ordinary Diet Session
SG's Comment on the "Gender-Equal Society Act"
(13 November 1998)
The Council for Gender Equality (Chair: Prof. Sumiko Iwao, KEIO Univ.) submitted a report entitled "On the Basic Gender-Equal Society Act" to Prime Minister Obuchi on November 4. In response, the government plans to make the Act into a bill and introduce it at the next ordinary session next year. On the same day, RENGO Secretary General Sasamori released an announcement stating "there are still problems with the report, such as the promotion of gender equality as part of the decision making process remaining only 'under consideration.' We will work on this issue during the next ordinary diet session."
