Revised Labour Standards Law passed the House of Representatives

On 3 September 1998, the Labour Committee of the House of Representatives passed the Labour Standards Law revision bill. It was then approved in the plenary of the House and sent to the House of Councillors for its deliberation. RENGO held its 14th Central Executive Committee and discussed further actions to be taken.

RENGO requests BOJ to raise the interest rate
(4 September 1998)

General Secretary Mr. Sasamori met Mr. Fujiwara, Vice Chairman of the Bank of Japan (BOJ). Mr. Sasamori made requests, including:
1) to ease the insecurity of the financial system;
2) to set an adequate level of the interest rate
3) to stabilise exchange rates
4) to ensure the autonomy of the BOJ and to facilitate transparent process of policy making

He added that job creation needed the economic recovery and that the economic recovery needed the stability of the financial system, requesting for early settlement of the problems of the Long-term Credit Bank of Japan.
