RENGO's philanthropy fund
$50,000 for Turkish Earthquake Victims

photoRENGO presented $40,000 to the Turkish Government and $10,000 to the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TURK-IS) from the Rengo's philanthropy fund for relief to victims of the Turkish earthquake disaster.

Secretary General Sasamori visited the Turkish Embassy on September 10 and presented the fund list to Turkish Ambassador Yaman Baskut. The Ambassador stated that "aid from Japan, itself an earthquake-prone country, is significant and on behalf of the Turkish people, I appreciate your kindness."
President Bayram Meral of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TURK-IS) also expressed their gratitude in a letter to RENGO which stated, "the solidarity you have offered exceeds national boundaries and gives us the strength to face the tragic conditions wrought by the earthquake."

Japanese Mission to Join COP 5
(17 September 1999)
The Japanese Government decided to send a mission to participate in the Fifth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change—the Bonn Conference (COP 5) which will be held at Bonn, Germany for a 10 day period starting from October 25. The government finally addressed RENGO's request, which had been a pending issue since last year.
