RENGO, ILO Hold Workshop
(11 January 2002)
On December 18 in Yokohama, RENGO held a workshop to better understand the actual conditions of and attempt to abolish child labor in the tourism industry in the Philippines. Co-sponsored by the Philippine’s National Union of Workers in Hotel, Restaurant and Allied Industries (NUWHRAIN) and the ILO (International Labor Organization), this conference gathered approximately 160 participants to appeal for the abolition of child labor in the tourism industry which borders on being engulfed in the sexual exploitation of children. Further, the “Child Labor Abolition Project” report, which was supported by RENGO, is being published by the Akashi Shoten publishing company under the title of Philippine Child Labor and the Tourism Industry.
