Deliberations on actions for the Ë2004 RENGO Peace ActionÓ to be realized as a national movement were held at the first PAT conference on November 12th at RENGO headquarters. PAT, an abbreviation for Peace Action Team, consists of officers in charge of national movements from affiliated organizations that make up RENGOÁs top leadership and was created last year with the goal of creating Peace Actions working together with affiliated organizations in order to deepen their participation in peace actions in Okinawa, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Nemuro. At this first conference, the activities for Fiscal Year 2003 were reviewed and the scheduled activities for Fiscal Year 2004 were endorsed.

On November 14th, the 3rd Countermeasures Conference was held for the revision of the Japan/US Status-of-Forces Agreement, which was concluded more than forty years ago and presents various problems which include the environment and jobs, jurisdiction, taxes and other matters. The conference was attended by fifteen major local RENGO which have U.S. bases in their areas and ZENCHURO (All Japan Garrison Forces Labor Union). The demand proposalÁs ËRough DraftÓ settled on thirteen clauses for revision. Hereafter, it will be endorsed at the RENGO Organizational Committee and the 3rd Central Executive Committee Meeting as a RENGO demand. Further, a symposium was held at Okinawa on September 26th.
