JBU Inaugurated
Changes in Affiliation Structure

On September 9, three affiliated organizations; Tekko Roren (Japan Federation of Steel Workers’ Unions), Zosen Juki Roren (Japan Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Workers’ Unions), and Hitetsu Rengo (Japanese Metal Mine Workers’ Union) merged into the Japan Federation of Basic Industry Workers’ Unions (a.k.a. Kikan Roren or JBU). With that, RENGO endorsed the change of affiliation at the 26th Central Executive Committee Meeting which was held on the 11th.

5. Affiliation to Local Rengo: Kikan Roren will apply to relevant local RENGO for the changes of affiliations as soon as preparations are set at the related regions and after the Kikan Roren inauguration convention.

6. Effective Date: After endorsement by the 26th Central Executive Committee Meeting on September 11, 2003.

7. Other

(1) Until new officials are elected at the 8th RENGO regular biennial convention, Central Executive Committee members Tetsuro Miyazono (formerly of Tekko Roren), Toshio Tanaka (formerly of Zosen Juki Roren), and auditor Satoshi Watabe (formerly of Hitetsu Rengo) will continue in their present appointments.
(2) Delegates for RENGO’s 8th Regular Convention are selected according to the number of union dues paying members three months before the convention according to the RENGO Constitution, Article 34, clause 2 and the clause 1 on selection rules for Convention representatives. So the number of representatives for Kikan Roren will be equal to the total number of representatives based on dues-paying union members from Tekko Roren, Zosen Juki Roren and Hitetsu Rengo.
