Cheering workers’ members of the Working Conditions Subcommittee in front of the Ministry

28 June 2006
On 27 June, about 260 union members gathered in a meeting organised by RENGO in front of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) for the purpose of cheering workers members of the Working Conditions Subcommittee of the Labour Policy Committee that was to issue an interim report shortly.

RENGO General Secretary Koga criticized autonomous working time arrangement and settlement of dismissal by money: “The Subcommittee has had only rough-and-ready deliberation in spite of the seriousness of issues it deals with”. The following subcommittee members expressed their resolutions and appealed that “communities and workplaces should raise voices to appeal to public opinion”: Ms. Hasegawa (RENGO); Mr. Tajima (JICHIRO: All-Japan Prefectural and Municipal Workers' Union), Mr. Hachino (JSD: Japan Federation of Service and Distributive Workers Unions); and Mr. Koyama (JAM: Japanese Association of Metal, Machinery, and Manufacturing workers).

The meeting was concluded by Mr. Ohno, President of RENGO Tokyo, and Mr. Umemoto, President of Federation of Non-life Insurance Workers' Union of Japan (SONPO ROREN) both giving words of encouragement. All participants yelled in chorus to the Ministry to realize a pro-worker Labour Contract Law and pro-worker Working Hour legislation.
